BALLSTON LAKE, NY – Mark Kislowski has had his fair share of ups and downs to open the first half of the 2011 racing season. As of late though things seem be coming together and heading in the right direction at both his weekly stomping grounds the Fonda Speedway and the Utica-Rome Speedway.
The biggest story so far from the 2011 racing season has been Mother Nature. At the Fonda Speedway racing action has fallen to rain five times including one feature that will be made up at a later date on August 10. The Utica-Rome Speedway has been hit equally as hard with five events falling to weather and wet track conditions.
The other story has been Kislowski’s increased success at the Fonda Speedway. Although a couple of poor finishes early on have set him back in the points, Kislowski continues to improve his finishes week in and week out. Of the last six events run, Kislowski has been in the top five in five of those events. His best finish came over the July 4th weekend with a second place finish to good friend Ronnie Johnson. This matches his career best established earlier in the season on June 4th. He’s on the cusp of getting that first career Modified win.
At the Utica-Rome Speedway things haven’t been going as smoothly. Kislowski has struggled getting the handle the new track surface and configuration that was put in place during the off season. Prior to the July 4th weekend his best finish at the Gene Cole owned facility was 13th. Riding the hot streak that drove him to a second at Fonda, Kislowski backed that up with his best career run at Utica-Rome with a third place effort on a very slick track. He ran second most of the race before being overcome by Todd Burley in the closing laps.
“We’ve been struggling quite a bit here,” said Kislowski about Utica-Rome Speedway. “We were lucky to hang on tonight. Guys with a little bit more experience got by me there but this is something we can build on. I think our average finish here is something like a 15th so a third place is almost like a win for us here.”
Look for Kislowski to be back in action in the coming week as the Fonda and Utica-Rome Speedways reach the dog days of summer. He’ll continue to search for that first career victory and considering the most recent successes, it should be right around the corner.
Kislowski sends out a special thanks to his family and crew for all of their support as well his sponsors for the 2011 season: Morris Auto Group including Morris-Ford Mercury and Terry’s Route 50 Super Lot, Schenectady Unit Parts (NAPA), Magsarus Ignitions, D.E. Flynn Excavating, and Jumpin’ Jacks Pro Speed, Griffin Motorsports, Henning Construction and new associate sponsors Heroux Motorsports and Palmer’s Service Center.
